Central Corporate Engineering Sdn Bhd (CCESB) is a pioneering start-up focused on commercial scale microalgae cultivation, offering innovative and sustainable alternatives to address global energy and environmental challenges. Over the past years, CCESB’s dedicated multidisciplinary research and development team successfully commissioned our pilot scale algae cultivation system, demonstrating promising consistency, scalability and economic viability. This was also executed in collaboration with Monash University Malaysia. Building on this, we now hold proprietary, self-owned patented technologies that will support the development of our commercial-scale production facility. CCESB is also a certified Bio-Based Accelerator (BBA) company by the Malaysia Bioeconomy Corporation in late 2024, as a recognition for our innovation and contribution to the bioeconomy sector.
Phasing Out Coal, Powering Up Demand
Malaysia is on track to completely phase out coal-fired power plants by 2045, yet national power demand is projected to surge, reaching 78 GW by 2050. To meet this growing demand sustainably, the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) targets a 70% share of renewable energy in installed capacity. However, current solutions fall short of replacing coal's reliability and energy density, creating an urgent gap for sustainable, scalable, renewable alternatives. This energy transition is not only a national priority but it reflects a broader global movement, with countries like Japan, China, Korea, and many others accelerating efforts to eliminate coal and decarbonize their power sectors.
Why Microalgae, Why Now?
Faced with evolving local and global market demands and environmental imperatives, we offer our modular algae cultivation systems as a strategic pivot, marking our transition from energy efficiency solutions to full-scale sustainable renewable energy innovation. Recognizing the untapped potential of microalgae, to the best of our knowledge, we are the first company in the world to take the BOLD step of utilizing microalgae biomass for commercial-scale electricity generation. Beyond clean power, microalgae unlocks a spectrum of high-value outputs such as biofuels, cosmetic oil, biomass, bioplastics, and biolubricants, positioning this as a versatile and scalable bioresources of the future.
